Pune ranks 2nd in availability and quality of human resources, a testament to the city’s educational establishments and its ability to attract students from different locations.
The city has reputed colleges for technical education, namely the College of Engineering Pune, Pune Institute of Computer Technology, Maharashtra Institute of Technology, and Vishwakarma Institute of Technology. These educational institutes along with many others are producing ample eager graduates each year that eventually form an efficient pool of human resource.
Pune is the only city in the world with 9 universities in one city. The importance and freedom given to development of educational infrastructure has made Pune University India’s 2nd largest varsity with more than 800 affiliated colleges.
Pune alone has over 40 engineering colleges with the bulk of engineers gravitating towards the IT and automotive industries. The city’s robust medical infrastructure supports over 50 medical, nursing and pharmacy colleges. There are more than 40 colleges for graduate courses in commerce and arts, a dozen law colleges and more for hotel management and tourism. With an average of 300 students per college, Pune produces close to 50,000 graduates per annum across the various streams of education.
Apart from the degree colleges there are plenty of institutes and training centers for chartered accountancy, information technology, fashion designing and vocational education offering diplomas in professions as diverse as plumbing and catering. With everything from certificate to diploma courses and one-room classes to one-acre campuses, Pune caters to every kind of education. As a result, Pune now has 9 central government institutes for specialisation, advanced studies and research.
